Project proposal of Mobile Library Van

Vanasthali Rural Development centre (VRDC) is working for the rural women and children in 9 districts in Maharashtra for the last 32 years.
VRDC is working with a specific objective to promote pre-primary education in rural Maharashtra.
Various activities are successfully implemented for the rural women and children.
The foremost aim for these activities is:

  1. To reduce the school dropout rate among students.
  2. To give opportunity to children/ students in schools in rural schools by giving them comprehensive and complete educational programme.

For this local women are trained by VRDC and they work as teachers and they propagate the activities conducted by Vanasthali.
One of the activities from the bouquet of Vanasthali activities is the “Mobile Libraty Van” with books and educational toys.

Brief description of the activity:

A van/Jeep/local Rickshaws (vehicle) goes from one municipal school to other in the surrounding area. It also covers remand homes and other children activity centres.

The van is decorated in an attractive manner with informational charts, pictures, story books, educational books and educational toys etc. The students/parents read books from the mobile library with the help of a teacher.

This develops a reading habit among children. The parents also understand the importance of reading. The vehicle moves in  200 k.m. radius thus ensuring an equal opportunity in every area.
